BUDDHA BAR
5027 West Lovers Lane
214.956.7700
Loud. Young clientele. Wannabe LA. Shiny shirts. Chinese girls who
"stage" name themselves "MonaLisa". Large groups of these people
seem to gather here, but the writer cannot begin to surmise where
in the hell they come from. Like the zoo, in some ways. Fun for
a short time to see weird shit.
HOUSTON'S
8300 Preston Road
214.691.8991
Bar scene provides a great environment any day of the week to grab
a beer, glass of wine, or a bite to eat. Guests of all ages look
great, are friendly, and make this restaurant a wonderful, underrated
place for a drink.
INWOOD LOUNGE
2421 Inwood Road
214.350.7834
The lounge, located in the Inwood Theater and separated by a fountain
and glass structure, continually draws an interesting crowd. Different
age groups, and very diverse crowd give this place a truly unique
identity.
INWOOD TAVERN
7717 Inwood Road
214.353.2666
Local watering hole, frequented by lots of locals. Crowd varies
in age, although guests primarily reside nearby. Musicians occasionally
perform in a back room which offers antique style furniture and
feels like a living room. Main room offers shuffle board, pool,
a long wooden bar, and usually, a few local, surly drunks.
MI COCINA
77 Highland Park Shopping Village
214.521.5154
Very upscale and trendy restaurant with three great bars. Very attractive,
well-dressed crowd. Upstairs Bar seems to be the most popular, offering
an attractive view of the surrounding neighborhood. Downstairs bars
serve mainly as waiting areas to groups prior to seating. Highly
recommended. Mamo taxi margaritas are pricey, but you won't finish
more than two (and walk out).
PATRIZIO'S
25 Highland Park Shopping Village
214.522.7878
Great, reasonably priced restaurant with tremendous people watching.
Very trendy. Not casual. People look great. Nearby residents mill
around the bar and gossip about useless shit. Single people must
check this place out between 4:30pm and 8:00pm on weekdays.
PF CHANG'S
225 Northpark Center
214.265.8669
Trendy Chinese restaurant with underrated bar. Although typically
frequented by people awaiting a seat in the restaurant, Northpark
Mall serves as a shopping hub, and social central, to a large number
of nearby residents. Accordingly, having a happy hour drink, and
perhaps an appetizer could be a winner.
SEVY'S
8201 Preston Road
214.265.7389
Mature, sophisticated crowd, typically between 30 and 50, yet they
look terrific. Great food, and great people watching. Bar provides
an area to mill around, or to sit and enjoy a drink or an appetizer.
Another place older singles should swarm, en masse.
SLIDER AND BLUES
8517 Hillcrest Road
214.696.8632
Local joint that serves beer and burgers. Very casual. Maybe after
golf. Women will hate it.
TIME OUT TAVERN
5101 West Lovers Lane
214.351.9392
Great local bar. Draws crowd of all ages, and from all corners.
Some locals. TVs, Shuffleboard, and other games available. Come
with a group and discover this underrated joint. Dirk, the bar tender
has it all under control.
TONY'S GOURMET RESTAURANT & WINE TASTING WAREHOUSE
2904 Oak Lawn Avenue
214.559.4093
For more sophisticated tastes, attend a wine tasting, or taste a
few of the wines that Tony has open and ready for you to sample.
Fun, even for those who don't know shit about wine. For those of
us who do, even more of a joy. Great food is also available, making
for an entertaining evening.
